Well, another fine day here on the farm with the weather cooling and hints of autumn in the air. The time of year when the workload increases exponentially, and things must be done; meanwhile dwelling in a lazy post-summer stupor and being visited in my sleep by strange dreams. Oh well, the circle goes on.
Hold on to your handsets! It’s another episode of Consulting the Oracle. You know the routine, if you’re new here, better catch up because the circle continues.
Today:
pentagon (pen’ ta gon’), n. 1. a polygon having five angles and five sides. 2. the Pentagon, a building in Arlington, Virginia, containing most U.S. Defense Department offices. (Gk penta-gonos five-angled). Random House
Being a backwoods sort of guy leaves me with a lack of appreciation anytime current events drag me into reality. And what’s up with all the geometry? Starting to think all this has something to do with the strange dreams. Pentagon is a word easy to live with, but when it starts with a capital letter one might tend toward getting concerned if anything like me, especially when it appears in print, (seditious conspiracy comes to mind).
Oh no! Random House is not dragging me into politics, we’re in the fiction category here! It’s like they say in Arlington: "it’s not a lie, it’s a fiction”.
Feel like soiling myself.
Big Data might start looking here. Maybe that will get us some new subscribers. Enough chit chat.
Pen-:
That syllable populates two full pages of my dictionary, why the possibilities are endless, not to mention the mathematics concerning the number 5. There are just way too many coincidences for my comfort level. Just having these pages open is making me dizzy. Not into coincidence.
But geometry, that’s just cool. A pentagon starts with a circle and contains straight lines and angles; it never lies because it cannot lie - it’s a pentagon. A force of nature and a gift to balance the harsher realities of being alive. Like the syllable above it’s everywhere, we are surrounded by it; just look around.
Perusing these pages is an adventure in itself: from pen-e-trance to Pen-to-thal with pen-guins, Penn-sylvania and Pen-tecost in between; a fantasy land where one can find what one is looking for.
Despite the more obvious shortcomings of our visions, language is beautiful. And Fearsome Deities are just that, fearsome deities - smoke. Fear forward. So long as we are free to say - we are free to say.
Which brings us to the purpose for all this:
Dismal and Foreboding Updates:
Since we are a small and intimate group, we can be honest with one another. Getting to a paywall ain’t gonna be easy.

There are probably quicker ways of increasing traffic to this platform, but that’s OK; you’re here and that’s all that matters. Playing with words is a hobby of mine (gotten me into trouble before), so this is kinda’ fun.
But the metrics, oh the metrics! Everybody is all about the metrics.
This is content, and the way to monetize it is to keep it coming. Folks want to get something for their money and words, well they’re words, losing value quicker than the dollar. So bear with me during the upstart. If this is spamming you, unsubscribe; you can always come back.
Meanwhile: the plan is weekly with a chapter of The Spell once a month and mindless banter in between to try and entice you into staying with it. Right now, we are a lamb in the wolf pit. You can help by sharing, commenting, (while you can) or even restack in Notes. Or just hang out.
Personal Traits is coming soon and man, is it strange! But this is Strange and Unusual Places so strange comes with the territory. One more agonizing episode with The Oracle and chapter 4 of The Spell of Ai follows. So stay tuned.
And don’t be afraid to use the word pentagon because it also defines a star with five points, you might have seen one.
Shameless Plugs:
Big thanks Cesar, so good to have ya' here!
