S&UP and U.S. Light Force

gettin’ a drift of it

Revenue Streams

We’re not fooling around; U.S. Light Force will need a ruggedized, fully equipped lab with a mobile satellite link, crew space, power supply, tools and equipment. We want the world to see us when we show up.

Possible revenue source as emergency response team and unit to respond where natural disasters or terrorist attacks occur. Since we will not offer diplomas or certs there are no plans to harvest students with federal loans; instead, we will offer internships and scholarships to candidates and rely on disaster relief funds to pay interns and cover costs.

A second use for the mobile lab is as a repair/refurbish service ready to go anywhere, anytime. This can be a good option for small- or large-scale vendors as a short-term solution to a workforce shortage or on demand need.

Yet a third possible revenue source is integration, characterization, diagnostic and even complete buildout of fiber optic premises, first, last or middle mile, wherever the need might be.

And of course, as a training vessel to go where the action is. A flexible team composed of SME’s and interns willing to work and learn along with us. As the tag-alongs become more and more proficient, we will fast track them through the certification process so they can enter the workforce prepared to accel. For some, they will receive our highest reward - a referral into placement within the nations most respected industries.

For those who rise to the top, they will own every bit of knowledge acquired, they will become highly sought after members of an elite team here with us, or wherever they go. They will plot a course which is theirs and remain eternal friends of U.S. Light Force.

Cost Structure

$300,000 would be a reasonable (if not unrealistic) estimate for a base model chassis and enclosure, and would probably not include power supply, ports, HVAC, storage, benches, uplink and other survivability peripherals.

$500,000 would purchase new instruments and equipment. This would provide a minimal suite of lab quality devices needed for basic and/or high reliability test and integration tasks. Of course, refurbed and leased equipment is available, but with diminished returns after maintenance, tuning and tweaking. There might also be opportunities for dispositioned equipment.

$100,000 for administrative startup costs e.g. legal fees, insurance costs, engineering costs etc. This is probably also a conservative estimate.

$1.5 million is the number that lingers about as regards some realistic startup costs, which should include covering operating costs for at least a time.

Of course, there’s a lot to take in here, and a lot more details, not to mention where the money is going to come from. Here’s the thing: the money wouldn’t be needed without a mission to fulfill.

Now, we’re certainly not the only game in town, nor the most influential; as for competition - there is none, since every scenario is unique and the challenges can be far-reaching. We don’t know what we don’t know. If there is a way, we will find it.

It’s only natural to be skeptical, and only prudent to express my own critical thinking.

Meanwhile, correspondence has gone out to U.S. Senator Mark Green, who chaired a recent hearing on cybersecurity: https://markgreen.house.gov/2025/5/chairmen-green-garbarino-open-innovation-nation-field-hearing-cybersecurity-truly-is-a-team-sport

Of course there is no reply, yet. Comes with the territory.

Next, we will be reaching out to Casey Lide, attorney partnered with Keller and Heckman in Washington D.C. Counselor Lide is a highly regarded attorney in all things communications and in particular fiber optics, we’ve spoken in the past, we have an invitation, and the firm does some pro bono work. Once we can say we have some legal representation, we will get back to Sen. Green and continue building relationships.

The temptation is to make this about money, which is a necessary tool, or about me as a raging lunatic bent on losing his audience.

  1. S&UP remains in the fiction category

  2. Money comes from people

  3. People form relationships

  4. It’s about people and relationships

If technology makes your head hurt, a reminder you are reading from a high school dropout. Spent a lot of years in technologies; it’s taken me longer to learn how to sharpen a crosscut saw.
