David, you're making me sound like an impish online crime boss, which I quite like, but perversely youtube loves to be robbed of Ana Vidovic videos. I'd send you elsewhere to steal them, but YT is the only place that keeps the door unlocked and the safe open.
I have to confess that I dropped out of high school physics as I already had enough credits and I could see the writing on the wall -- a grade that would lower my GPA. Knowledge be damned. So I might think I followed your post and all the physics stuff, but I'm probably overrating my understanding. As usual, I'm taking an optimistic message because that's how this crime boss likes to roll. Light, continuity, and Divine awareness -- that sounds great to me.
In terms of being at a crossroads, how are you feeling about a hillbilly being the VP candidate? I saw his Hillbilly Elegy book at the library and grabbed it, now a little ways into it. Have you read it and, if so, what do you think? Does he portray your view of the hillbilly culture? And are your hillbilly cronies happy one of their own is in the spotlight? (I assume you have cronies as we're both online perps.) No need to respond if you don't wish, I'm just very curious as I believe you're the only hillbilly I currently know. You're my 'go to' in the hillbilly world (if that's OK).
Well, you're reading from a guy with barely a high school education, reared in grinding poverty, but my childhood was filled with wonder (despite horrible abuse) and I read a lot, observed the world around me. Landed a career in communications (copper and fiber optics) then landed in the hallowed halls of Bell Labs where exposed to physicists, scientists and engineers. Excelled as a technician and went on to become senior engineering technician photonics working in defense, aerospace, deep sea, guidance and navigation etc. Light is my thing. My DNA is orbiting the Earth, deep under the seas, flying and am well respected within my field. A lucky one.
J.D. Vance is a welcome relief to the usual milk-toast garden variety political figure and will make a fine president (with luck) in the coming trying times. Absolutely dismantles dems in the mainstream media machine. Know nothing about his personal story or publications since we're isolated here and rarely leave the farm. As for hillbillys (intentional misspelling) many folks don't appreciate being referred to as such since it comes with a certain stigma attached, but I wear the badge proudly and am one hillbilly who can read and write. Defining one would be elusive save for the idea that they live in mountainous ridge and valley regions, sometimes indigenous and in this instance Appalachian. There is much more in these posts about the lives and mores of salt of the earth folks, and I will return to that again and again.
I will say this: the tyrannical increasingly centralized regime currently in our midst has one great overriding fear and he is known among the long arms of their intelligence agencies as "Bubba".
OK, wow, that explains so much! Thanks for sharing more of your background. That's a pretty incredible story. Especially if you did well in the renowned Bell Labs. Kudos to you for making good given your background.
Re hillbillys, I think Dolly Parton and some of the other country singers did a lot to make them seem like good folk and erase some of the stigma. Plus many of us remember the Beverly Hillbillies where the Clampetts were always outsmarting the Hollywood elite. JD Vance is another hillbilly who made good, and like you he wears the badge proudly. I highly recommend his book, as he's a good writer and compassionate towards the Hillbilly culture while also recognizing the problems and circumstances that have been a blight. (Which I would argue are now afflicting the entire working class.) He grew up in Appalachia (Kentucky) and Middletown, OH. Judging by what he writes about his extended family, the regime is right to fear "Bubba" as he answers to a different authority and plays by different rules.
Enjoying these posts even when I struggle to understand them, and now I know why you're writing about physics and light!
The hillbilly is viewed as an uneducated, backward somewhat savage underclass. Mr. Vance is then Southern Appalachian. Where my home is now resides very near the Mason and Dixon line where brother fought brother during the American Civil War, old families and those sentiments still live. My farmstead is antebellum (1840) and much like farmsteads throughout the south. North of the line they cure their ham with apple, south of the line with hickory. Here it is hickory, and Northern in name only.
But the real history of the hillbilly is as old as humanity; a people pushed to the margins retreating into the mountains, escaping tyranny and persecution. Endowed with a certain fierce independence born of long histories of endurance.
This makes me realize how little I understand what's going on in this country (!), having grown up in an area that was pulled between the East Coast and the MIdwest in customs, accent, etc. When I lived in Houston, I was shocked to be viewed as a Northerner.
Also makes me realize why there is such an enormous schism between the coasts and the heartland, which are operating according to two extremely different belief systems and codes of conduct. I moved back from overseas to find that I can't talk politics with friends and family anymore. Distance and crossing cultures really makes you see things with a different lens.
That's a nice home studio they're in (post and beam).
Without seeming too seditious, the talk among folks is clear enough; they see and feel the unmistakable indicators of impending warfare, and they're arming top to bottom front to back. The lines are drawn and there is a threshold too terrifying to contemplate. "it's all fun and games till the food runs out" or "when the many stop fearing the few" or "either we all hang together, or we all hang separately".
S&UP is my effort to address the psychic warfare, offer a break from the morass, offer options and in some way do my part to avoid warfare.
You are another soldier in the psychic warfare, a friendly, one of the good guys.
Having been in the midst of finalizing my latest post last night and then reading your comment, I had trouble sleeping.
Unlike so many people I know, I started doing some prepping earlier this year in alarm at the situation. The power went out in the winter for three days and it brought home that I had no way to get drinkable water or find/cook food if I couldn't get to a store, spring, or other source. I've since remedied that, but discovered it's not so simple. After the power goes out, the stuff in the freezer doesn't stay frozen long. Use it or lose it. Canned goods -- now I eat fresh organic and canned tastes awful, but if you're hungry it'll do. Found other foodstuffs I consider more nutritious (nuts etc), but I don't eat processed food, which is what keeps longer.
I agree that food shortages will be the trigger to carnage. Will leaders/powers-that-be be able to escape to the underground tunnels apparently crisscrossing the country? I don't fancy their chances of survival, frankly.
Many other countries are not likely to devolve into chaos, so getting out is a possibility, but will other countries welcome us when the international community is rapidly mobilizing through Brics to counter the west? Will we become the unwelcome refugees?
Or will there be a mass die-off as they disperse chemicals from the air (echoes of my post today)? There's already a die-off from the shots, estimated at 17 to 32 million worldwide. They did some spraying here this week and the air smelled horrible. I shuttered myself inside. The nefarious Gates is apparently hiring pilots to dump va-x-ines on populations and there's no regulation whatsoever to stop any psychopath with too much money.
I tried to distract myself from all of this with Ghostbusters, but other than that proton joke at the beginning, it turned out to be a dud.
My brother is into the alien stuff, ufos have apparently prevented some military maneuvers. Where do those dudes stand on helping humans?
My question to you, was there a moon landing?!
I'm now intrigued by evidence that giants used to inhabit the planet. Why are there all those classical buildings with enormous doors and ceilings, not to mention so much burial evidence?
Very interesting times. It really does thrust us back into faith re our conception of God and good vs evil, because otherwise it's devastating to contend with all this.
And our pleasures. Enjoy life while you can is my new motto.
You raise a good point: the objective here is to point out the vagaries of certainty/uncertainty, e.g.: you're sitting in a room with high-ranking executives and engineers determining the root cause of a failure. You (a lowly technician) know you can back your data, but they will kick your ass because they can (degreed) and routinely disagree since they are so certain of themselves.
You must introduce uncertainty in order to put them on defense.
Try this: "have you actually seen a photon?"
And their reputations are now on the line. You just brought quantum into the conversation, where nothing is certain. You now have the floor.
T.E.I.F., never thought about it that way, but you landed it quite well and will quote you. Not really so much over your head, just re-read and visualize. Lots of folks have trouble with my language, just remember you're reading from a hillbilly for cryin' out loud!

I will respond tomorrow, but just heard a photon joke in the new Ghostbusters movie and had to share it.
"So a photon is walking into a hotel.
The bellboy asks,' Do you need help with your luggage?'
'No thanks,' the photon responds. 'I'm traveling light.'"

This was great, a little above my head, but a unique science based , mysticism infused kind of prose poem.

Exactly.
